This web site is designed to enhance students' and instructors' use of the print volumes of The Heath Anthology.

Heath Orientation:
A brief explanation of why The Heath Anthology was created, what need it fulfills for instructors and students today, and how our web resources complement the pedagogical goals of the text.

Our three-column timeline places literary publications in historical context. Using the menu on the left of your screen, you can isolate a particular period of the timeline. The first column indicates the publication of literary works, as well as birth and death dates for the authors. Icons next to the titles of works connect to cultural objects (visual, audio, and text files) on the internet that are useful to readers of particular texts. The second column lists historical events from the Colonial period to the present. The final column lists major cultural events. The timeline can be used inside the classroom, or by individuals working on their own.

Heath Materials:
Although the print edition groups texts thematically, our website allows you to access titles in The Heath Anthology through several different organizational strategies. These links allow users to browse The Heath Anthology contents by title, author, and year of publication, as well as by the print volume's table of contents. Links from these lists take you to the Profile Page affiliated with each author.

Author Profile Pages:
Author profile pages offer the headnotes for each writer in the volume, with links to related information on this web site and to external web pages useful for further research.

Instructor Resources:
The instructor resources include the Instructor's Guide an online, expanded version of the print Instructor's Guide, as well as sample approaches and lesson plans and suggested activities and assignments for the selections in The Heath Anthology, submitted by instructors from a wide range of specialties and institutions. This dynamic, online community of instructors will continuously expand in the coming years, and you are encouraged to submit your own approaches and assignments for teaching one or more texts in The Heath Anthology.
