When Will People Help. What makes a bystander decide to help or to ignore a potential crisis? Daryl Bem, the film’s consultant and narrator, discusses the problem and presents experiments by social psychologists. The bystander, who must define the situation as an emergency and must feel the weight of responsibility, often is deterred by the presence of others. (1976, 25 min.)
