Activity 11.1 Location of Data from Published Sources

In this chapter we reported a large number of data sources. Data can be found in hard-copy publications in the references section in libraries and on Web sites created by numerous governmental, quasi-governmental, and private organizations. Here is a list of variables that describe units of analysis. Locate the data described and write down the precise location (bibliographic reference or Web address).

  1. The percentage of the vote received in the most recent election by members of the House of Representatives
  2. The most current data on life expectancy of citizens in African countries
  3. The number of homicides that occurred in Californian cities in 1998
  4. Roll call votes in the U.S. Senate in the past five years dealing with an environmental issue
  5. The most recent data describing the number of telephones per capita for countries
  6. Which states have set term limits for their governors
  7. Judgmental data describing democratic characteristics of countries
  8. The vote received by the two major parties in the most recent election in a country in Europe
  9. The percentage of citizens who hold bachelors degrees in each of the counties in Montana
  10. How many presidents previously served in the U.S. Senate
