The 77th Legislature dissolved the General Services Commission and divided its responsibilities between two agencies:
  • The newly created Texas Building and Procurement Commission, which supervises most state purchase
  • The Department of Information Resources, which directs telecommunication services for all other state agencies
The seven-member Building and Procurement Commission includes 3 members appointed by the governor; two appointed by the lieutenant governor; and two nominated by the speaker of the house and approved by the governor.
