Newspaper reports following adjournment of the 77th Legislature indicated that several political contributions were made at that time to Governor Rick Perry, especially from big donors. The Houston-based Texans for Lawsuit Reform, which advocates curbing lawsuits against business, was the main source of this money. The organization successfully pressured Governor Perry to veto two particular bills that it opposed.
