Chapter Five: The Politics of Interest Groups

What Is an Interest Group? pg. 185

Some examples of interest groups in action during the 2001 legislative session include: the Student Advisory Board (an organization that represents universities within the Texas State University System), which lobbied against a bill that would mandate a public service requirement for college students; the Texas Bicycle Coalition, which opposed legislation that would restrict cycling on Texas country roads; and StandDown Texas, which would unsuccessfully supported a moratorium on the death penalty.
