To pursue information on regional councils, see the web site of the National Association of Regional Councils.

The web site of the Association of Bay Area Governments has won awards for its information and design.

Another site with a wealth of regional information is the Southern California Association of Governments, a regional planning agency for 184 cities and 6 counties in Southern California.

If you are interested in a multistate regional organization, see the web site of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The Urban Institute provides a great web site with research on economic and social policy in urban areas.

For an anti-sprawl argument, see the Sierra Club.

If your interest is more rural, the web site of the National Rural Development Partnership is useful and it has links to state-level rural councils.

A particularly interesting rural council is the one in Texas, the Texas Rural Development Council.
