Spanish-English Glossary

The vocabulary includes the active vocabulary presented in the chapters and many receptive words. Exceptions are verb conjugations, regular past participles, adverbs ending in -mente, superlatives, diminutives, and proper names of individuals and most countries. Active words are followed by a number that indicates the chapter in which the word appears as an active item. P refers to the opening pages that precede Chapter 1.

The gender of nouns is indicated except for masculine nouns ending in -o and feminine nouns ending in -a. Stem changes and spelling changes are shown for verbs, e.g., dormir (ue, u); buscar (qu).

The following abbreviations are used. Note that the adj., adv., and pron. designations are used only to distinguish similar or identical words that are different parts of speech.
