RENFE (Red Nacional de Ferrocarriles Españoles) maintains the principal web site for train travel in Spain. The site includes timetables and prices (horarios y precios) for a wide variety of trains, including the high speed AVE.

1. Beneath the image of a train, there are seven icons on the RENFE home page. Place your cursor on each to see their names, and write their names as they appear from left to right.

2. Click on Viajes first, and then on Estaciones. According to the text, what do train stations throughout Spain offer?

3. In the Estaciones box, scroll down to Madrid-Puerta de Atocha. Click Consultar, and answer the questions below based on the information that appears.

4. a. Find the link for Horarios y Precios. Use the boxes labelled Estaciones Principales to find information about traveling from Madrid (Origen) to Sevilla-Santa Justa (Destino). Skip the optional date boxes. Click on Realizar Consulta.

The schedule that appears offers several types of train, including Tren hotel, AVE, Talgo 2000, and Triana. Imagine you are in Madrid, headed for Sevilla, and must decide which specific run is best for you. Write a brief statement stating why you like a certain option. Mention the train's name and code number (i.e., el AVE 9614), what time it leaves, how long it takes to get to Sevilla, the price of a ticket and the special services offered. (Note: A symbol key is available at the bottom of the page.)
