Look at the chart titled "Number and Percentage of Free Blacks, by State, 1800" on page 223 of the textbook. By studying that bar graph, you should be able to answer the following questions:
  1. Had the revolutionary ideology of the Declaration of Independence resulted in the freeing of most African-Americans?
  2. Had slavery been totally eliminated in any state by 1800?
  3. Which northern states had made the least progress in eliminating slavery by 1800?
  4. Which southern or border states had made the most progress in eliminating slavery by 1800? Which had made the least?
  5. In which four states did the bulk of free blacks live in 1800?
