April 30, 2002

On April 29, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake was felt 30 miles (45 km) SSW of San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 28, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake was felt 760 miles (1230 km) SE of Clipperton Island (National Earthquake Information Center).


Increases in volcanic and seismic activity at Lokon-Empung led VSI to raise the Alert Level from 2 to 3 (on a scale of 1-4) on 12 April. Eruptions occurred on 10 April at 2302 and on the 12th at 1816. On 13 April eight gas-and-ash explosions occurred and on the 14th five occurred. Tremor that began on 11 April continued through at least the 14th. (Smithsonian Institution Global Volcanism Program).


April 23, 2002

On April 21, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake was felt 40 miles (65 km) S of Shijiazhuang, Hebei, China. (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 20, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake was felt across the Northeast United States and parts of Canada. (CNN.com).


April 18, 2002

On April 18, a 6.6 magnitude earthquake was felt 25 miles (40 km) E of Copiapo, Chile. (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 17, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake was felt 40 miles (65 km) NE of Bandar-e Abbas, Iran. (National Earthquake Information Center).


Signs of unrest persisted at Etna during 6-14 April. On 13 April two earthquakes, with magnitudes 2.7-3, were felt by the local population. They occurred on the SE flank between the towns of Zafferana and Santa Venerina. During the report period, ash emissions were nearly continuous at Bocca Nuova crater, rising to several hundreds of meters. No incandescence was visible in the crater. On April 15, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake was felt 55 miles (90 km) SW of Iraklion, Crete, Greece. (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 14, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake was felt 35 miles (55 km) SSW of Karakul, Tajikistan. (National Earthquake Information Center).


April 9, 2002

On April 7, a 3.1 magnitude earthquake was felt 15 miles (20 km) SW of Clearlake, California. (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 6, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake was felt 45 miles (70 km) SW of Nenana, Alaska. (National Earthquake Information Center).


April 4, 2002

On April 3, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake was felt 15 miles (25 km) S of Su-ao, Taiwan. (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 1, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake was felt 35 miles (55 km) NNE of Coquimbo, Chile. (National Earthquake Information Center).


On April 1, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake was felt 240 miles (385 km) WNW of Coos Bay, Oregon. (National Earthquake Information Center).
