  • What's MOO? is from Athena University, a totally online university. It offers an example of a MOO discussion and includes links to other MOO resources.
  • Lingua MOO Beginner's Guide to MOOing is a handy and printable MOO guide. Their directions will apply in other MOOs as well.
  • The MUD Starter Kit by Colin Moock provides an excellent explanation of MUDs (MOOs are a variation of MUDs) that will help any beginner.
  • Chatting Online from About.com offers links to chat clients, chat FAQs, and articles on chatting and chatting behavior.
  • Chat Using IRC by Bob Brand gives a good, bare-boned overview of using Internet relay chat. Brand writes a distinctly opinionated Internet Info for Real People column.
  • IRC FAQ offers one of the clearest and most authoritative guides to Internet relay chat, with excellent supplementary links. This page is maintained by mIRC, makers of one of the most popular windows clients for doing Internet relay chats. Their What is IRC? page complements the FAQ by offering greater detail.
  • Ircle: IRC for the Mac is a good Internet relay chat client for Mac OS.
  • Chat Room FAQ by Scott Noyes. This short FAQ offers excellent tips on how chatrooms work and on protecting your privacy when you chat.
  • Chat Etiquette: The Dos and Don'ts by Warren Mundell offers more detailed information, including advice on posting pictures of yourself and an excellent list of chat room abbreviations.

  • Lingua MOO offers an excellent WWW interface. If you set your browser to accept cookies and enable java, you'll be able to choose Login from the menu and get started. This site offers excellent resources for teachers as well as students.
  • MUDs, MOOs, and MUSHs offers an extensive list of educational MUDs, MOOs, and MUSHs. The page also contains links to useful articles on using MOOs and MOO help sheets.
  • Liszt's IRC Chat Directory lets you search for over 37,000 IRC channels on 27 IRC networks.
  • The Ultimate Chat List  provides a searchable database of chat rooms and sites on the Net and offers its own chat community.
