Web Design Activities
Chapter 11: Tone and Style

  1. Design a web site to complement a fairly lengthy, literary travel article you've read or a favorite travel book. The site design should reflect the style and tone of the written piece. (Review the principles of design in Chapter 5 to help yourself plan an effective site design.)

Here are some places to look for travel writing:

    Travel Intelligence

    Travel Insights
    http://www.travelinsights.org

    Journal of African Travel Writing

    Women's Travel Writing, 1830-1930

    Paul Theroux's Travel Writing

    Yahoo! Directory of Travel Writers

  2. Critique the design of three websites advertising travel destinations. (The possibilities are endless. Try searching on Google for a place with the word tourism: "India tourism " "Virginia tourism " "Rome tourism" etc.)

Identify what you think is the intended purpose and audience for each site. Is the site design appropriate for that purpose and audience? Why or why not? What would you change about each site?
