Web Design Activities Chapter 8: Paragraphs: Units of Development
- Turn an essay from the Writing with a Purpose website or from elsewhere on the Web into a hypertext essay. (To do this, cut and paste the text from the web page into your HTML editor.) How will you connect the paragraphs in the hypertext version? Will you use special paragraphs? Rewrite introductory, transitional, and concluding paragraphs as necessary to fit the hypertext format.
- Your text states that "an effective concluding paragraph leaves the reader with a sense of completeness, a conviction that the point has been made, that nothing else needs to be said." Can this be accomplished on a website? If so, how? If not, why not?
- Evaluate several websites for coherence. What strategies did the website author use to make the site coherent? How do these strategies differ from those described on pages 198-203? Would any of those strategies be useful on a website? Why or why not?
Write a critique of each site, describing what if anything you would do to give it greater coherence.
