Chapter 6: Common Methods of Development

  1. Find several examples of hypertext essays on the Web (try searching for "hypertext essay" on Google). Evaluate the methods of development these essays use. Can you identify any of the structures discussed in Chapter Six in these essays (or any alternate structures)? Are any particular methods of development particularly well- or ill-suited for a hypertext essay (or any website)? Explain why or why not.

Locate a long essay on the Web. (You might use one of the sample student essays on this website.) Using cut and paste, copy the essay into a word processing program. Next, reformat it as a hypertext essay. Do the patterns and structures the writer used work for a hypertext essay? Why or why not?
