PEER stands for Practical English Exercises and
Review. This software is an interactive, self-correcting study
program designed to complement any Houghton Mifflin writing text by
reinforcing students' understanding of key concepts and rules. The
program contains approximately 350 computerized exercise items in the
areas of sentence structure, diction, grammar, punctuation, and
mechanics. The straightforward menu system makes it easy to direct
the program to a particular topic.
Print these instructions:
- You will need to switch from your browser to your hard drive.
Print these instructions so you can refer to them later.
Download PEER (available in PC format only):
- Create a folder called peer in the "C:" directory of
your hard drive.
- Download (PEER) software now.
- Windows 95 users: when the Save As... dialog box appears,
locate the PEER directory that you just created, double click on
it and press "Save. (Windows 3.1 users: when the Save dialog box
appears select "Save to disk." Make sure you are copying
"peer.exe" into the PEER directory that you just created.)
Decompress PEER:
- Double click on the "peer" icon from within the Windows file
manager/Win95HD.
- Windows 95 users: when the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box
appears, ensure that the folder name \peer appears in
the text box and then press "Unzip." When Unzip has finished,
press "OK" and then press "Close." You should now see a long
list of files in the folder.
- Windows 3.1 users: you will see your screen go blank and
files will be inflated in DOS. To show the inflated files,
click on another folder other than the one containing your PEER
files, then click back to that folder. You should now see a
long list of files in the folder.
Run the Program:
- After the files have been decompressed, you may run the
program. Double click on the "Start.bat" file from within the
Windows file manager/Win95HD.
- Follow the instructions for PEER. (Note: During installation,
you will be asked to configure your disk drives. When you are
asked in what disk drives Disk 1 and Disk 2 are located, enter "C"
for both.)
