Subject-Verb Agreement: Possessive Pronouns

With a possessive pronoun standing alone, the antecedent determines whether the verb is singular or plural. Possessive pronouns such as mine, his, hers, ours, yours, and theirs can refer to both singular and plural antecedents. The antecedent determines whether the verb is singular or plural.
  Example Her average is good, but mine is better.
  Description singular subject / singular verb
 
  Example His grades are good, but mine are better.
  Description plural subject / plural verb
