Passive Voice: Overuse

Generally your writing will be clearer and stronger if you express "who's doing what" with a subject and verb in the active voice. If you use the passive voice when no specific purpose exists, the effect will be heavy and indirect.
  Faulty    He was alerted to the danger of drugs by his mother and was persuaded by her to enroll in a rehabilitation program.
  Revised    His mother alerted him to the danger of drugs and persuaded him to enroll in a rehabilitation program.
