The Evolution of Language (p. 250)
Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology
The institute’s aim is to investigate the history of humankind. The evolution
of language is just one of the subjects of study. The institute home page
has links to various departments, like Evolutionary Genetics and Primatology.
(The institute itself is in Leipzig, Germany.)
This site gives right-wing conservatives a chance to attack their favorite
target: universities. It’s devoted to nonsense.
Thinking Passages: Persuading with Political Speeches (p. 291)
Great American Speeches: Speech Archive
This invaluable resource provides access to the most famous and influential
speeches throughout American history. They are arranged by era, and some provide
background, video, and/or audio to accompany the text of the speech. You can
listen to Huey Long describe his “Share-the-Wealth” program to U.S. Senate
staffers in 1934, for example.
