Chapter 10: Assessment of Student Learning and Achievement

There are few formal assessment instruments either online or on CD-ROMS, but you can use technology create and organize information from informal assessments. Rubrics for assessment and evaluation are commonly used. Technology can aid your assessment efforts by acting as a delivery system for testing. It can be a vehicle for collecting and collating information from your observations, checklists, journals, or individual conferences with students. Also, technology can be a storage and retrieval system for housing student electronic portfolios.

Today there are standards for both literacy and technology, and you will need to find ways to assess growth in each of these areas. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has thoroughly demonstrated that it is quite easy to integrate literacy learning and the use of technology through work with thematic units.
