Chapter 14: Assessment Of Classroom Learning

  1. Interview a teacher about his/her training regarding classroom assessment. How much training did the teacher have in assessment prior to obtaining his/her first teaching job? In the teacher's opinion, was it a sufficient amount of training? Did the teacher receive any training after he/she began teaching? If so, what types of training and where was this training acquired? What advice would the teacher give new teachers in terms of preparing themselves for classroom assessment?

  2. Ask the teacher if you can see a test that he/she uses in the classroom. Then analyze the test. What type of test is it (written or performance)? How many questions are on the test? Are there different types of questions being used (e.g., multiple choice, essay) or just one type? For each type of question used, what percentage of the test contains that type? How long do the students have to take the test? Does the time allotted seem reasonable for the length of the test? Are there criteria stated on the test in terms of what is expected of the students? If yes, do they seem easy to comprehend? If no, did the teacher provide these criteria prior to giving the test?
