Chapter 13: Classroom Management

  1. Write a 2 to 3 paragraph summary of a management issue that you have observed in the classroom. Include in your summary a description of the situation as well as the context in which it occurred. Also, include the manner in which the issue was resolved (if it was resolved). Think about how you would address the situation. Share your summary with 2 to 3 classmates and discuss the situation as a group. What are some ways to resolve the issue? How could it have been prevented? Do you feel the teacher handled the situation appropriately? Why or why not?

  2. Talk to the teacher about instances of school violence. What types of violence are most common at the school? What school-wide policies exist to address school violence? What resources are available to help teachers prevent or address instances of school violence? What steps has this teacher taken to address issues related to school violence? What suggestions does the teacher have for you as a future teacher?
