Site Observations Chapter 8: Information Processing Theory
- Record how the teacher presents information to the students. Does the teacher use a variety of methods or only one or two? Why does the teacher make use of these methods? Based on your observation, is the teacher effective at getting and holding the attention of the students throughout the lesson? Does the teacher monitor or regularly check the amount of student learning throughout the lesson? How is this accomplished? Think about how you might design this lesson with information processing theory in mind.
- Talk to the teacher and students about the use of mnemonic devices in the classroom. If they are used, ask for some examples. Do the students like them? Do the students feel the mnemonic devices have any impact on their learning? Does the teacher feel the mnemonic devices are effective? If you have observed the use of these devices in the classroom, what is your impression of their effectiveness? Why do you think they were successful or unsuccessful?
