Site Observations Chapter 3: Age-Level Characteristics
- Describe an instance in your field observations where you thought a child was experiencing some emotional difficulty. Give as much detail as possible. What did the teacher do to help this child work through his/her problems? Do you think this help was effective? Why or why not? How did the other students in the classroom react to the situation?
- Record specific examples of activities or instructional techniques that the teacher used to encourage and support the cognitive development of his/her students. What was it about these activities or techniques that promoted development? Now record examples where the students seemed to have difficulty understanding what they were being asked to do. Keeping Piaget's theory in mind, why might these students experience difficulty? In your opinion, what should the teacher have done differently?
