Chapter 13: Classroom Management
- What are the benefits of taking an authoritative approach to classroom management? Are there situations that you feel it makes more sense to take a laissez-faire or authoritarian approach? If so, why would these approaches be more appropriate? Discuss your answers with your classmates.
- What are some rules that you believe to be important for your future classroom? What is the best way to make sure that your students will follow these rules? What are some ways to establish consistent consequences and reinforcement for classroom behavior?
- Recall an instance in which you were reprimanded or punished by a teacher. Were the teacher's actions effective? Why or why not? Consider a situation in which a classmate was reprimanded or punished. What impact did the teacher's actions have on you (if any) as an observer?
- Take a few minutes to visualize and draw what you believe to be an ideal classroom setting for enhancing classroom management.
