Effectively meeting the varied learning strengths and needs of all students in the classroom is no easy job for any educator. Whether in the general or special education classroom, teachers need to be ready to match the content of their lessons, units and programs of study with student interests, strengths and difficulties. General and special educators may plan together in "team" meetings to provide for needed accommodations or may even team teach. Because all educators who participate in a child's school day are essential to the child's success, teachers need to be prepared to collaborate effectively and plan inclusively for the needs of all their students. By considering and implementing activities which address all students, the teacher also becomes a role model for accepting differences (Kochhar, West, & Taymans, 2000).
In this section we have provided a Lesson Plan Template for Inclusive Planning that can be used to guide instructional planning decisions. A few Lesson Plan Samples are also included. You can find many ideas about instructional modifications for individual students in the Instructional Modifications and Accommodations section of the web site.
