An Internet Location Dealing with Successful Title 1 Schools

On the next screen begin at the top by watching the slide show titled "Lessons Learned from Visits to National Title 1 Schools." Then select a school from the lists by year for 1996-1997 to 2000-2001 and read the description of developments and outcomes at the school. As you read, ask yourself questions such as the following:
- What seems to have improved achievement the most?
- Are the practices described "transportable," i.e., easy to use at other schools?
- How were special education and/or bilingual programs and teachers involved?
- How were Title 1 funds spent?
- Would you want to teach at this school?
You may also want to share your conclusions and material with classmates who selected other schools, or you can return to the first screen and check out some of the research reports made accessible by the Star Center.

Comprehensive Regional Assistance Centers
This is a group of centers founded by the U.S. Department of Education, through the 1994 update to the act that created Title 1 funding, to provide comprehensive technical assistance to schools, including help with improving performance.

This is the professional organization for state officials involved with Title 1 programs.
Office of Compensatory Education and Title 1
This is the part of the U.S. Department of Education responsible for administering Title 1 funds and programs.
