Kevin M. is a 12-year, 6-month old boy with learning disabilities. He is in the seventh grade. Kevin was given an intelligence test and found to have above average intelligence, but he is failing in several academic areas. Visual and auditory acuity were tested and are within normal limits.

Achievement testing shows that Kevin is reading at grade level 6.8, close to his grade placement. He has difficulty with written language. His written language is very concrete and he uses few adjectives and adverbs in his written production even though he is able to express himself orally very well.

Kevin's mathematics achievement is at grade level 3.4. He lacks number sense, and he has difficulty with multiplication and division. He cannot apply number concepts to the real world.

Kevin enjoys playing baseball and he follows the scores of professional baseball players.
