Connect Magazine. This magazine is a wonderful resource
for K-8 teachers who are engaged with innovations in science, mathematics,
and technology. Each issue features project-based activities that use
inquiry, design, and mathematical analyses.
The Exploratorium. This famed San Francisco science museum has a
web site replete with science information and activities, from the esoteric
(such as nuclear physics) to the everyday (the science of baseball).
The Franklin Institute Online. From earthquakes to the human heart,
the Franklin Institute's online collection of learning resources offers
a wealth of useful information.
Invention Convention. This K-6 competition, sponsored by Houghton
Mifflin Company, encourages students to make physical models of their
ideas. Children are always coming up with new ways of doing old things.
Why not put their ideas to work? You can hold a local Invention Convention
and enter the winner in the national convention.
Networks: An On - line Journal for Teacher Research. A forum for teachers
to share their experiences and thoughts on curriculum, teaching methods,
collaboration, and many other subjects.
PBS Online. The public television network's web site has a section
devoted to science and nature, and the information is linked to PBS programs
that your students may be able to watch at home. The
TeacherSource section includes thousands of lesson plans and activities.
Science and Children. A journal devoted to science
teaching from preschool through middle school, available with membership
in the
National Science Teachers Association.
Technology and Children. In this journal for elementary
school education, the technology involves design and construction. Look
for ideas like the shoebox house featured in Chapter 10 of
Science Stories. The journal is produced by the
