The use of technology to support integrated-content area projects is one of the major themes of "Integrating Technology for Meaningful Learning." We discuss project ideas and related technology tools and skills throughout the book and provide a summary of the project approach in Chapter 10.

A recent analysis (Oliver, 1997) based on 79 K-12 Internet projects provides a nice update and extension to Chapter 10. This article outlines seven common activities present in most student projects:

  • pre-project planning,
  • gathering information,
  • sharing and communicating,
  • data integration,
  • constructing products,
  • evaluation, and
  • demonstrating and teaching.
The article makes liberal use of web examples (complete with URLs) to exemplify each type of activity and provides some very helpful URLs for locating of K-12 project opportunities.
