Chapter 11: Online Search of Educational Reform Models

Visit a computer lab and locate Catalog of School Reform Models maintained by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, at http://www.nwrel.org/scpd/catalog/index.shtml (accessed January 3, 2005).

Explore models such as Core Knowledge, Direct Instruction, School Development Program, Urban Learning Centers and Expeditionary Learning. These models, and others, have elements of the educational philosophies of Perennialism, Essentialism, Progressivism, Reconstructionism, and Existentialism

Select one of the models and review the rationale, organization, implementation, and research results as reported on this website. Then present a brief overview of the model to the class and discuss its philosophical basis.
