Clara Barton is the founder of the American Red Cross.
Her work started during the Civil War.
She tried to locate missing soldiers.




2. Use the following information to write a complex sentence.

President Abraham Lincoln had authorized Clara Barton to help families find their missing loved ones.
Lincoln authorized her work in 1865.
Lincoln authorized her work shortly before he was assassinated.




3. Use the following information to write a compound-complex sentence.

Clara Barton founded the Missing Soldiers Office.
The Missing Soldiers Office was believed to have been started around 1866.
Its mission was to locate missing soldiers.

4. Use the following information to write a compound-complex sentence.

Clara Barton went to the Confederate prison in Andersonville, Georgia.
She obtained authorization to open the individual graves of 13,000 prisoners.
Prisoners were identified.
Families were notified.
Andersonville is the home of the first national cemetery.
