Identifying Clichés
Read the following groups of sentences. In each group of sentences, there is one cliché. Type the cliché in the text box. Then, type a formal expression that could replace the cliché. 1. Some people never live and learn. They continue the same dysfunctional patterns in their lives and experience the same results each time.



2. I am growing concerned and impatient. I have not been called for an interview for a job that I think would be perfect for me. Well, I guess no news is good news. I will just have to be patient for a few more days.



3. Many experts provide techniques for reducing the stress in everyday life. I have heard that laughter is the best medicine, so I strive to find humor in most situations.



4. The water heater in my apartment leaked all over the floor. I slipped on the water and hit my elbow on the glass table top, which then broke. There is no doubt in my mind that when it rains, it pours.



5. Sid has been in school for six years. He has changed his major several times. He finally chose his major and has only ten credits to complete before getting his degree. He now sees the light at the end of the tunnel.



6. I know that every cloud has a silver lining. However, the predicament I am in is a challenge for me, and I do not see anything positive about this situation.
