Checklist for Revising Your Paragraph
The following checklist can guide you through the revision process for your paragraph. Print this checklist. Check the items as you complete them in the revision process.
  1. _____ The topic sentence is effective with a narrowed category and Subjects A and B clearly identified.
  2. _____ The body of the paragraph follows your prewriting outline.
  3. _____ The concluding sentence echoes the topic sentence in its purpose, subjects, and controlling idea.
  4. _____ The point-by-point or the block method is used consistently throughout the paragraph.
  5. _____ Equal development is given to each subtopic.
  6. _____ Transition words are used effectively to help ideas flow together smoothly.
  7. _____ The paragraph has unity. All sentences support the topic sentence and the purpose to compare and contrast.
  8. _____ The paragraph has coherence. The subtopics and the secondary details appear in the same order for Subject A and Subject B.
  9. _____ The paragraph has adequate development. Each subtopic is developed with an adequate number of secondary details to clarify or explain the subtopic.
  10. _____ The concluding sentence echoes the topic sentence and the purpose.
