The following checklist can guide you through the revision process for your paragraph. Print this checklist. Check the items as you complete them in the revision process.
_____ The topic sentence is effective with a narrowed category and Subjects A and B clearly identified.
_____ The body of the paragraph follows your prewriting outline.
_____ The concluding sentence echoes the topic sentence in its purpose, subjects, and controlling idea.
_____ The point-by-point or the block method is used consistently throughout the paragraph.
_____ Equal development is given to each subtopic.
_____ Transition words are used effectively to help ideas flow together smoothly.
_____ The paragraph has unity. All sentences support the topic sentence and the purpose to compare and contrast.
_____ The paragraph has coherence. The subtopics and the secondary details appear in the same order for Subject A and Subject B.
_____ The paragraph has adequate development. Each subtopic is developed with an adequate number of secondary details to clarify or explain the subtopic.
