Narrowing the Topic
We narrow a topic in order to have a topic that is a manageable size for a paragraph. Narrowing the topic is the beginning of the process of giving your paragraph a sharp focus.

Each of the following topics is too broad for one paragraph. In the first text box, write one way the topic can be narrowed. In the second text box, take the topic you came up with in the first narrowing and narrow it further.
