Click on a topic to learn more about how to use ReadingSpace, or just scroll down the web page to read the topics in order. Students should take the Pretests first. The Pretests assess your current skill level. A rejoinder follows each answer to examine whether you've answered correctly or need further practice. After you have completed the Pretests, use the Practice Tests to enhance your reading skills. The practice tests allow you to identify and develop 10 essential skills. Take advantage of the helpful hints and suggestions that accompany each question to learn effective reading strategies. Finally, the Mastery Tests allow you to determine if you understand how to apply the tips provided during the Practice Tests. As in the previous sections, you'll have the advantage of rejoinders that evaluate the accuracy of each answer.
Each test in ReadingSpace begins with a short reading. Read the material carefully, then answer the series of questions that follow. To answer multiple choice and true/false questions, simply click on the answer you think is correct. You may change your mind as many times as you like. If you decide to change your answer, just click on the answer you think is correct. Your first selection will be cleared, and your new answer will be selected. To answer the essay questions, enter your essay in the text box beneath the essay question. To begin writing, place your mouse arrow over the text box and click once. A flashing cursor will now be inside the text box and you can begin typing. Type as if you were working on a word processor or a typewriter. Don't worry about the size of the text box and try to make your lines fit inside of it—it will automatically scroll your writing down to the next line. If you need to go back and look at parts of your answer that are no longer visible in the text box, use the scrollbar on the right-hand side of the text box to move the text into view. The top arrow button scrolls the text up toward the beginning; the bottom arrow scrolls the text down toward the end.
