Case Study 1:
Bob and Molly are both taking a 10:00 a.m. college reading class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Molly's fixed study blocks for this class are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and later Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. Bob chose fixed study blocks for this class from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. Which schedule has the potential to be more effective? Explain.
Case Study 2:
Michael and his sister Gayle are both college students, yet they differ in their approaches to school. Michael believes that he operates best in a crisis and when he is under pressure. However, his grades reflect those of a student who simply throws things together without pride in his work. Gayle has a strong sense of confidence and accomplishment when she uses a weekly schedule. She feels that she controls time; time does not control her. What three benefits of time management could Gayle use to convince Michael to try using a weekly schedule for three weeks?
Case Study 3:
Peggy is hesitant about starting school because her life already seems so chaotic. She has no idea how she will find adequate time to study. However, she wants to achieve a degree and seek a more profitable and rewarding career, so she is eager to find ways to make time management work for her. Peggy is a single parent of two young boys; one is in the fourth grade and the other is in pre-school. Peggy tries to have her classes completed by noon so she can pick her youngest son up from preschool. Peggy enjoys getting involved with her sons' school activities and the older son's afterschool sports. By the time her boys are in bed at night, she is too tired to concentrate or study. She saves most of her studying for Saturday and Sunday. What suggestions can you give Peggy so she can include more study hours during the course of the week?
