Becoming A Master Student, Concise, Tenth Edition
Dave Ellis
    "This Web Site Is Worthless"!

The first edition of Becoming a Master Student began with the sentence: This book is worthless.

Many students thought this was a trick to get their attention. It wasn't. Others thought it was reverse psychology. It wasn't that, either. Still others thought it meant that the book was worthless if they didn't read it. It's more than that.

The book is worthless even if you read it, if reading is all you do. What was true of the first edition is true of the most recent edition of the book and of this Web site. Unless you use the ideas found in them, they won't do you any good.
  • Are you a student who is looking to improve your GPA and find a direction in life?
  • Are you a teacher who is looking to invigorate your students?
  • Are you a parent who is looking to encourage and motivate your son or daughter?

You will find suggestions here, but you have to use them. You have to commit to make a change and do the work that needs to be done.

You probably won't take action and use the ideas until you are convinced that you have something to gain. The main purpose of this introduction is to sell you on the value of committing yourself to spend the energy to use our Becoming a Master Student Web site actively and commit yourself to become a master student or a master teacher. Here's what's in it for you.

Pitch #1: You can choose from hundreds of techniques.

The Becoming a Master Student Web site is packed with lots of practical, nuts-and-bolts techniques. And you can begin using them immediately. If you can't get out of bed, don't know your purpose, are stressed about career choices, or are just stressed in general, there is something here to help you.

Not all these ideas will work for you. That's why we've included a bunch. You can experiment with the techniques. As you discover what works, you will develop or re-develop a unique style of learning that you can use for the rest of your life.

Pitch #2: You get the best suggestions from thousands of people.

The concepts and techniques in Becoming a Master Student come from tens of thousands of students from all kinds of backgrounds who have tried them and say they work. These are people who dreaded giving speeches, couldn't read their own notes, and couldn't remember where the ileocaecal valve was. Then they figured out how to solve these problems, which was the hard part. Now you can use their ideas.

This Web site also integrates the techniques of many people.
