Chapter 15: Decision Making and Negotiation

  1. Assume you need to make a decision about where to locate a new plant. The options have been narrowed down to Madison, Wisconsin; Columbia Missouri; and Bryan, Texas. You now need to find information about tax rates, unemployment statistics, and airport access for each community. Use the Internet to search for this information.

  2. In what ways do you think the emergence of the Internet has affected how managers make decisions? Give concrete examples to support your ideas.

  3. Describe ways in which information technology might be used to manage brainstorming, the nominal group technique, and the Delphi technique more efficiently than using these techniques in more traditional ways.

  4. Pair up with one of your classmates and conduct a hypothetical negotiation via email. Then discuss the pros and cons of electronic negotiation versus face-to-face negotiation based on your experience.
