Sample Article: "Coca-Cola Set to Revise Joint Venture with P&G" (Financial Times–July 3, 2001)
Coca-Cola is expected to alter the terms of its juice-and-chips joint venture with Procter & Gamble after criticism that underperforming brands could jeopardize profits. The joint venture, named Simply Juice, is to create new health-oriented juice drinks by tapping into both Coca-Cola's vast distribution system and P&G's extensive research and development arm. The new company combines Coca-Cola's Minute Maid orange juice operations with P&G's drink brand, Sunny Delight, and Pringles potato chips. The venture reflects in some ways rival PepsiCo's strategy to sell both snacks and drinks, dubbed the "Power of One." Coca-Cola has promised in its effort to boost global volume that more joint ventures would be planned.
